Great neighborhood café! Good food, strong coffee, and wonderful service. Dog-friendly outdoor seating

I had never been to this part of San Jose before, but planned to come here for brunch because it was on the way to a hike that we never ended up going on. Oops. This shopping center is a little bit of a time warp back to the simpler days of urban sprawl of the 1960s.
Heartbeat Cafe also feels like a step back in time as well. The staff is very friendly, but the food was kind of underwhelming. They have a breakfast menu and a crepe menu, in addition to their regular menu on the boards overhead. I got the avocado, tomato and spinach crepe. It was pretty light on the amount of avocado, and I think it would have been better if the spinach was wilted a bit. It did the job, but didn't wow me. I also didn't feel super stuffed, which maybe is good if you're looking for that, but not so good when you're about to go on a 7-mile hike (although this was not the reason we did not go on said hike...). Overall, this place seems like a nice neighborhood spot but nothing to go out of the way for. -

I read reviews here before taking my daughter and our dog for a simple lunch. She loves lemon crepes. The place is clean, the service was fine, and the food was A-OK. (but was hot, as if the AC was out). I agree with other reviews that the prices are a bit high for what you get but one must factor overhead and employees and such into the equation. Plus it's in an antiquated outdoor shopping complex. If I want something really wonderful I'd go elsewhere but for a place to get a small big that's far better quality than anything fast food, this is a reasonable option. I don't know how many times we will return but it'll be a consideration, meaning we'd come back again, so that's good.

Lots of antiques, nick knacks, and character to keep you interested and entertained. Their cappuccino or macchiatos are lacking in taste. The milk is waaaay to frothy for my personal taste. The woman in the front wasn't helpful. Overall, just an ok place.... I'm sure you can find better cafes off of Bascom. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're a coffee head though. Mediocre coffee at best.

We just visited here with our two little kids in between their soccer practices. We ordered crepes and a sandwich and everything was fresh and delicious. The lady who helped us was so nice and so attentive. We will be back next week! What a hidden gem!
